I’m Grant Maledy, and I’m thrilled to be here. I was raised in Salem, MO, about two hours east of Springfield. I went to college at THE Missouri State University. I started my teaching with the Central HS marching band while in undergrad and went on to work with Nixa, Cabool, Lafayette and other programs before graduating. I started my certified teaching career at Branson Public Schools in 2006, then moved to El Dorado Springs, MO for two years. While teaching at eldo I completed most of my Masters in Music with an Emphasis in Instrumental Conducting, again at THE Missouri State University. I moved to Odessa, MO for three years before moving to Smith-Cotton HS in Sedalia, MO for the last nine years. I completed my masters in 2014 and continue to look for opportunities to improve my conducting. I joined the 135th Army Band, the musical outreach unit of the Missouri Army National Guard in 2015 and enjoy playing my saxophone as well as the fantastic health care.

My family and I are so excited to move not only to Springfield, but to the Hillcrest attendance area. My wife (Catherine) and kids (Camden, 8 and Cameron, 4) are fantastic and help make me fit to be around. We try to spend as much time camping, hiking, biking and paddling as we can.

I’ve been interested in teaching at Hillcrest since I first heard about the program (sometime around 2001) and can’t overstate how excited I am to get to work. We are building a full-featured program in the north, with concert, marching, jazz, solos, indoor and more. I hope you’ll be a part!
